Five Minute Friday-View

On Fridays, I join up with Lisa-Jo Baker and her 5 Minute Friday prompt.

Hundreds of us write for five minutes flat-no editing, no over thinking and no backtracking.

And, because I’m being honest, try as a may, I tend to write longer than five minutes. Forgive this little perfectionist heart.

Today’s Topic: VIEW

cake with candles

With luck, today I will lean over a cake similar to this one and blow out some candles. No doubt I will pause to try to come up with an all encompassing wish that will make our lives perfect.

But, it will evade me.

If only this journey could be redeemed as quickly as it will take for me to blow out these 36 candles.

I realize though now, as I type, that when that time comes today, I have a choice to make.

I can stare at the flames and look back at what life was and what I wanted life at 36 to be. Or, I can look over the flames and see my husband’s face, my son’s face. I can see the blessings that stare back at me, waiting for me to make the wish and blow out my candles.

It’s a moment in life when I can once again be brought to the place of decision on how I view our lives.

Warriors, it’s so easy to get caught up in what we see through our injury goggles and miss the true blessings in our lives. The battlefield may be strewn with the rubble of a life that hasn’t measured up to your expectations, but I promise if you will look up over the horizon, over the candles of your birthday cake, you will see something better. The sun will rise over the foggy fields littered with your failed dreams, financial struggles, stressed relationships and difficult parenting.

A new day will come. Another chance to change your view, to renew your thinking and remember that the Lord above will complete His purpose in your life.

His view is all encompassing.

You dry your tears, don’t be thinking grey is here to stay.

Sometimes everything is in the way you’re wanting to look at it, turn your view around, dry your eyes.

Eyes like yours should carry a smile. I haven’t seen them sparkle in a while. Give it one more try, dry your eyes.

This: “A new day will come. Another chance to change your view, to renew your thinking and remember that the Lord above will complete His purpose in your life.” Thank you for these words. My heart needs them.

    Hi Allison
Happy birthday, dear one. May the best of last year, be the worst of your next one! Yes, we sometimes are so weighed down by everything that is burdensome in our lives that we truly miss seeing the blessings smiling at us.
    Much love
