Warrior Wednesday – Rough Roads

It seems that the road on the way to better is chock full of pot holes and pits, road gators and rocks.

On the way to better makes you a prime target for the armies of the underworld to hurl more at you and send in the second string to pummel you.

Warriors, when I made a conscious effort to step out on the way to better, life got harder.

The hard knocks started rolling in faster and I found myself holding onto the end of my rope, white flag in hand.

I had my list of to-dos on the way to better and knock by knock, those to-dos took a backseat to my boo-hoos and my heart’s boo-boos.

It turns out the road on the way to better means you’re picking a fight with the one who means to destroy you, the roaring lion that prowls. And, when you make the decision to be better, it’s like a hallelujah chorus starts playing and a column of light shines from above, bringing you to his attention.

Warriors, have you been there?; at the end your rope, no relief in sight and brought to your knees cause the only shred of hope you can find is to speak the name of Jesus over and over again until your breath evens out again.

Tell me I’m not the only one.

Y’all, if you didn’t know, I’m straight up southern stubborn. We just don’t give up.

When I was growing up, my brother and I would wrestle and fight, scream and throw things at each other; all in the name of love, of course. My mother would urge me to ignore him, to stop fighting back, but it just wasn’t in me to do quit.

I was born a fighter. I was born to love deeply. And, when you marry those two qualities, you get one southern steel magnolia who doesn’t give up on anything especially her God-given husband.

And, when Satan fights you that hard to separate what God brought together, well, then you know he is afraid.

When you make the decision to start on the way to better and it pisses Satan off, then have faith, Warriors, you made the right choice.

As I cling white-knuckled at the end of my rope with the white flag clenched in my teeth, I need to remember that God is waiting for me to let go of my rope and take His yoke. He is waiting for me to wave my white flag, not in surrender to my circumstances, not to let Satan have his way, but to surrender to my Father who knows best, to the one who carries me on the way to better.

And when you are old, I will still be there, carrying you.
When your limbs grow tired, your eyes are weak,
And your hair a silvery gray, I will carry you as I always have.
I will carry you and save you. Isaiah 46:4 (The Voice)

Surrender, Warriors, but don’t quit. Wave your white flag to the Almighty God who loves you and then go on the way to better pissing Satan off the whole way.

Me? I’m right there with you, enduring to the end when we stand face to face with God and know that having done all, we have fought the good fight.

Well done, faithful Warriors. Well done.

Wonderful, hallelujah! It is wonderful when we acknowledge His ever constant presence. We tend to forget or ignore that He is with us, but when we realize and come back to our senses He never left us, oh, what a moment! Then we get it and allow Him to fight the fight for us.
Not because we are cowards but because He said, “The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” Exodus 14:14

I LOVE “on the way to better” so much…my mind is swirling with all the thoughts it brings forth. What I love even more is reading your words. I’ve MISSED this. :)
